Scalene Muscle Locations and Trigger Points
The scalene muscles are actually three muscles found in the side of the neck. Blood vessels supplying the arm actually pass between these muscles. Trigger Points in these muscles can be very problematic, and cause a wide variety of symptoms. Thoracic Outlet Syndrome is caused by compression of these blood vessels. Common symptoms include pain, numbness, tingling, swelling, and weakness of the arms and hands. These symptoms are often incorrectly assumed to be Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, as the symptoms are similar. In addition, Trigger Points here can cause chest pain similar to angina, as well as upper back pain. |
